Zoey's Room | Max's
Room
Zoey’s
Room is a national online community
for 10- to 14-year-old girls, encouraging their interest
in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Hip
cyberhostess Zoey chats live with the girls every day after
school. No other website like this interacts with girls
on such a personal level to kick start their interest in "hard
skills." Zoey’s Room has worked closely with
the Federal Trade Commission to follow COPPA (Children's
Online Privacy Protection Act) for registering our
members
and
was the
first online learning network to check the identity of
the parent through a third-party filter. Not only do we
have safety measures built into our registration process,
but Zoey and other characters we continue to build are
avatars, online personas of a real junior staff members
who are trained to be real-time hosts of the room. Our
overall
goal is
to create the safest interactive communities available.
Zoey’s
Room offers young girls a platform
for being involved in the computer age and advancing their
fascination with technology in a safe
environment where they can discuss personal challenges. Under
the auspices of adult facilitators, the associated Zoey’s
Room after-school clubs bring girls together to explore and solve
real-world applications of web-based
learning. Self-paced activities, the Tec-Treks, are fun online
and offline activities in science, technology, engineering and
math and encourage girls to use technology and shows them how
to create user-generated program content.
In
Development: Max's Room (recently called xDream Challenge)
In
the United States, between 16 and 33 percent of children and
adolescents are overweight or are at risk of being overweight.
As PSF’s
research has shown, youth are drawn to activities that encompass
technology. People
commonly associate obesity and unhealthy eating habits with sedentary
activities like playing computer games. The calculated irony
of Max's Room is that it allows players to get
physically fit without letting their computer get dusty.
Using Zoey’s
Room as
a model, we are in the Research and Design phase of the Max's
Room and
looking for developers and investors for Development and Implementation.
